This spring quarter, the UC Davis Chicano Studies Mural Workshop class is designing and painting a mural at the Migrant Head Start Center located in Woodland. The center is a valuable resource for many of the migrant parents and Woodland community members that live in region. Our goal is to create a mural that reflects the Migrant Head Start Center in all of its aspects and what it brings to the community. We invite you to follow along as we share with you our mural creation experience.

Our First Visit at the Migrant Head Start Center
In order to get an idea of what types of images to put on the mural, we decided to interview the women who work and participate at the center. They were all kind enough to take time out of their day to participate in these interviews. This process is key to constructing the mural because it gives many ideas and stories to work with.
We brought food and refreshments for everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable during the interviews.
This is the wall as it first appeared to us. It is located on a center stage that overlooks a giant meeting room that is frequently used by the center for many meetings and events. The wall was still in need of repair when we saw it. The dads that are involved at the center really came through in patching it up for us later. We couldn't wait to get started!
